Phil Beer, one of the most enduring and respected figures in English folk and roots music, makes his return to ACE Space for his third solo gig there. He has also played in Newbury as half of Show of Hands at the Corn Exchange, Arlington Arts and, most recently, ACE Space as one of the few grass roots venue’s included in the duo’s marathon “farewell” tour.
“Phil is one of the most popular ambassadors for acoustic roots music. A dazzling instrumentalist, he is perhaps best known as a topflight fiddler” But in his own words: “I would actually take issue with that statement. I didn’t write it. I’m very good at what I do. The trick is to design what you do in order to accommodate your limitations. That’s why I don’t teach. I leave that to the pros. I’m too busy gigging or making albums anyway. I’ve now been ‘on the road’ for 45 years. I’m amazed I’m still standing. I’ve made hundreds of albums with bands/singers/ musicians and done gigs with most of them. Some are world famous, some you’ve never heard of. Whilst I ache in the places I used to play (L Cohen!), I’m still up for what is about to happen, not what has been and gone. Hopefully, myself and my compatriots have more to contribute yet before we shuffle off.”

Phil’s special guest is Sarah Yeo who the late Jim Marshall (of Marshall AMPs) declared “Sarah is my favourite singer”. Could that be because she possesses a voice as “smooth as chocolate” that leaves an audience spellbound? Sarah’s career so far has taken her to many amazing venues in the UK and USA including Birmingham Symphony Hall and Blackpool Winter Gardens. She’s recently shared stages with the likes of Roswell, Sam Kelly, Kezia Gill, The Wandering Hearts & Ward Thomas, and performed a pre-show for the UK 2023 Bonnie Raitt tour. Sarah’s next album “The Circles Of The Grain” is due for release in September.

This is a one-off special, distinct from the rest of the gigs on Phil’s tour.
